Today I woke up with a migraine. That means I stay in my dark bedroom. I take a migraine pill. After a few hours, my head pain comes down to a mild headache. But I know if I’m around light, or noise, or tv, or too much phone, I will get a migraine again. So, I have a lot of time to lay in the dark, reflect, pray, etc.
While my headache was mild, I tried to text people back. I use a blue light filter on my phone when I have a migraine. It makes my phone not so bright. As I was texting a friend back, both my hands started to hurt so badly. I started to realize, if I wanted to be on my phone, I was going to have to lay the phone down because it was too painful for my hands to hold onto anything. That idea didn’t faze me. I’m pretty used to adjusting to any weakness, or pain in my body. That’s what happens with any disability. You naturally adjust.
Right now, my phone is laying down and I am voice texting. I reflected on the fact that there was a day that it would have scared me to hear that I had to be in a dark room, have the light down on my phone, and my hands would become so painful I wouldn’t be able to hold my phone. But it’s not scary today.
Why? There are many situations I am afraid in. There are many situations I get overwhelmed about. Why am I not discouraged, today, when one thing after the next gives out on my body? Then I realized- it’s because of the peace God is giving me today, for this situation. Jesus said that He gives us peace that the world does not give. He somehow gets us through the things we don’t think we can face. Without Him, we couldn’t face them. We couldn’t get through them.
And that’s why we are fearful when we think about these situations. That’s why we are fearful about bad things potentially happening. Because we can’t see the grace that He will give us, the anointing He will give us to sustain us through it day by day.
Sometimes I look back at horrible things I went through in my life, and I’m more traumatized now than I was going through them. Why? Cause I don’t have God’s grace now to go through them. Back then I had His grace. That should encourage me. Because His grace will be with me whatever trial hits me. The thing I am scared of facing, I am scared of, because I don’t have His grace for tomorrow, today.
In the future, if it ever happened, He would give me the grace to sustain it. He would give me the faith to walk through it. He would give me peace in the middle of the storm. You’re afraid of being single forever? You are afraid of someone you love dying? You are afraid of your kids leaving the faith? Maybe you fear health problems hitting your family? You are afraid of financial difficulties? Those are all valid things that we can be worried about in the natural.
But as Christ followers, we have something we can depend on in those storms of life. Someone who will give us grace if those things ever happen to us. The thing we fear won’t be as paralyzing as it is in our head. We don’t have the grace now to face it. If it ever happened to us, God would give us the grace to sustain it.
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Psalm 91:1-4 “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
