Devotional # 17- Use what you have!

God can use what you have in your hand to do a supernatural work. After God called Moses to go to Egypt to set the Jews free, Moses said, Exodus 4:1-6 “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” Then the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A staff,’ he replied. The Lord said, ‘Throw it on the ground.’ Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. Then the Lord said to him, ‘Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.’ So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. ‘This,’ said the Lord, ‘is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.'” God used what Moses already had to do a supernatural work. He can use what we already have in our hand to do the same. Maybe it’s a talent we have, maybe it’s time, maybe it’s money etc. God can use opportunities that come your way if you step out in obedience when you feel God tugs on your heart to do so. This could be using your musical gift to post a video on social media even if it just encourages a handful of people. It could be buying a gift for a co-worker who is in need. If you’re in business it can be using your sales job to show sincerity and love to all the clients and potential clients you come across. If you’re a parent, it can be teaching your children to follow Jesus. If you’re married it can be being a good spouse and doing a selfless act for them. If you have Chronic illness it could be drawing closer to the Lord in a season of suffering. Being willing to give our time, job, money, or family unto the Lord are ways that He can use what is in our hand, just as God used the simple shepherds staff that was in Moses’s hand. The song you sang may have drawn someone’s heart closer to the Lord. The children you raised are the future generation that will have the tools they need to face life’s challenges. The way you treated people at work may have been seeds God planted to bring them to Christ. The way you drew close to the Lord during your suffering may have been a light that reached people in a way you will never know. Drawing close to the Lord may have defeated darkness in the spirit realm that you’re unaware of. Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 “…make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders…”
